I'm doing a work trip that I'm trying to route through savannah to stay on AA.

I'm happy to rent a car for the week to do the drive to charleston, but was wondering if it was a pleasant drive.

Also, can anyone recommend a nice hotel in Charleston? I'm willing to go over my hotel allowance if I feel I'm in an area that I don't have to drive to the fun spots and the hotel has what I need.

Any ideas of what is fun to do in Charleston? I have meetings most days and at least one night.

Well the drive itself is not much to write about. But you can go to Hilton Head, SC on the wayt to Charleston.

There are a number of nice hotels in Charleston. I particularly like the Westin, which is also a historic hotel. The Doubletree is located right on the market and is also very nice. Be prepared to pay $$$ for either of these.

If you have a car and the hotel doesn't matter, you can get some nice hotels at better prices in North Charleston perhaps 10 miles from downtown. The Sheraton there is a nice hotel and offers decent rates many times. There are a lot of malls also in the area.

In Savannah, the new Westin hotel across the river from the Riverwalk area is awesome.

The Hilton Head Island resort from Westin is also very nice, although there are a number of nice beachfront hotels there.

Charleston is beautiful and you will really enjoy your stay. Remember, you can spend a lot of money in a city like Charleston and not even realize it. SO be careful.
