It looks like I'm going to move out to Denver for while and I'm interested in insights about good neighborhoods in which to live.
Here's my ideal:
1. A neigborhood feel, lots of small shops and good restaurants probably along one or two central streets. Lots of different types of people. More urban than suburban.
2. Good afternoon life (as apposed to night life). Coffee shops, produce markets, places to pass the day reading and hanging out. I don't usually go out to bars so that's not too important to me.
3. Diverse restaurants, a little vietnamese, a little french, some burrito joints, mostly neighborhood places where you get to know the owners.
(as you can tell my life pretty much revolves around food)
4. access to independent art house movie theatres (or even a Landmark theatre) gets bonus points also.
A couple examples of places that I like in other cities: in San Francisco, The Haight,Castro, Mission, and Inner Sunset districts. Also something along the lines of Noe Valley or Upper Fillmore are good.
In Seattle, Capital Hill and Queen Anne are both good examples.
In doing some research it sounds like I should be looking at Capital Hill in Denver. I'm also interested in the Baker Area (or something like that, though I can't seem to find its boundries). I'm not too interested in LoDo as the times I've been there it seems to mostly chains restaurants and large bars. It also seems to be more of a destination rather than a neighborhood. If I'm wrong about that, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
so hopefully that's enough detail. I'm heading out for thanksgiving and hoping to do some apartment shopping there. I'd appreciate any tips on areas to focus my search.
thanks!
