Howdy,

I'm taking a solo trip to Paris the end of December. Two questions:
1. Do places that close for Xmas typically open back up on the 26th?
2. Any suggestions for things to do for a solo traveler? This is my 6th trip to Paris, but the first solo trip. Having done most of the "typical" sights, I was looking to get a little more esoteric on this trip and see things that aren't necessarily in Fodor's.

Thanks!

Have you done the sewers and the catacombs? Versailles is nice in Dec, as there are no crowds, although I do not know what the effect of the Xmas holiday will have.

I would encourage you to find some local celebrations or events that are not necessarily designed or advertised to tourists. I have gotten to participate in community new year's celebrations in both Brazil & Scotland, and they are among my most memorable travel experiences.

Some cities have a program where a local volunteer will agree to show you their city as a courtesy. Hooking up with this program could also offer some unique experiences.
