My wife and I are planning trip to Paris via USAir. I would like to get recommendations on romantic though modest accomodations. Our stay will only be 3-5 days. Thanks -- http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/cool.gif

I was in Paris in May, and stayed at Hotel Grand-Leveque, recommended by Frommers and Rick Steves. My single room with bath down the hall was about $40.00 a night, and they threw in breakfast at no charge, even though all their information says breakfast is extra. I think rooms with bath are also available. I believe the place was renovated in the last several years.

I found the place clean, quiet, and in a great location! A block and a half from the Ecole Militaire (military school) subway stop, a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower, a few more to the Arche de Triomphe. The street it is on has an outdoor market, and is just lovely. It was a great base of operations, and I'll certainly plan to stay there again when I return!

Here's their website: http://www.hotel-leveque.com

have a great trip!

I've stayed at Hotel LeTourville which, when they're good, it's really good (same area as the previous poster), but when things are bad, they're really bad. . .Very clean though and wonderful location.

Another hotel you might want to try is Hotel Muguet - same area - email is muguet@wanadoo.fr - they book up pretty early. I love this area - Ecole Militaire. It's close to everything, close to two metros, the Eiffel Tower, Invalides, and you can walk everywhere else. Great restaurants as well - one of my favorites is L'Aubergines - the roasted chicken is really wonderful as is the staff! Enjoy yourself.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, tomb!

I, too, love the Seventh Arrondissement near Ecole Militaire and stay only at the Hôtel Relais Bosquet. I have stayed there about five or six times in the past two years and it's a wonderful, little hotel with an excellent and quiet location. I've recommended it to a few FTers and other friends/associates who have stayed there and all have enjoyed it. Took my sister and two friends there last February and they all said they would gladly stay there again. You can check out their web site at:

Have a great trip!

A couple of years ago my wife and I spent 10 days in Paris, staying at the Hotel Parc St. Severin. It is a great location, close to two Metro stations, and a very short walk to Notre Dame. The staff was helpful and spoke English (that was important to us!). We paid about $108 a night, if I remember correctly. The room was typically small, but was kept magnificently clean.

Location is everything when choosing a hotel in Paris, and the best location is really a matter of what you're most interested in.

The most romantic spot, for my money, is any hotel on the Ile St-Louis, which is an island in the Seine, adjacent to the island where Notre-Dame is located. The island is quiet (not much auto traffic), and it's lovely to stroll by the river banks. There are only 4 or 5 hotels on the island (Hotel des Deux Iles and Hotel St Louis are 2). The down-side is that hotel rooms on Ile St-Louis are more expensive than comparable rooms elsewhere.

If you're looking for a slightly better value, try Hotel Ferrandi, on the left bank. It's a charming hotel on a quiet street (rue du Cherche-midi) that's lined with art galleries and tea shops; it's about a 5-minute walk from Montparnasse, and a 15-minute walk to St-Germain-des-Pres.

Does anyone know of a good hotel around L'Opera?

That's my favorite in Paris. Gotta go there at least one night whenever I'm there.. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

Why, yes. And I agree -- it's my favorite area to stay.

For an upsclae hotel, the Scribe, now operated by the Sofitel chain, is tops. It has reasonable rates (esp. corporate rates), the hotel has great service and 2 good restaurants, and the rooms are certainly nice enough (though, as with every hotel in Paris, small).

When I'm on a tighter budget, I stay at either the Libertel Caumartin (Libertel chain) or La Pera (part of the Golden Tulip chain). They're both on rue Caumartin, less than a 5-minute walk to Place de l'Opera, the Auber RER station, or the big department stores. Both have reasonable rates and are extremely clean. The rooms (esp. the single rooms) are small, but the bathrooms surprisingly decent-sized.

I would avoid the Grand Intercontinental. On my most recent stay there, the hotel had the feel of a place that was ready to go out of business: the service was nearly non-existent, the furnishings were woefully threadbare, and the main restaurant had simply closed.

Modest but not romantic is the Holiday Inn Express Le Bourget, if their is no convention, rooms are available at USD 50-55.
It is 10-15 minutes away from CDG( no hotel shuttle ) and minutes to a shopping complex ( Carrefour ) Breakfast is always included and good.
There is a busstop right in front of the hotel which takes you to the Gare du Nord right in the city centre for 1.25 USD in about 60 Minutes. You can also leave earlier and use the Metro, after 25 minutes.

My other recommendation is the Hilton Orly Airport.Especially on weekends they have brilliant promotions, starting at around 60 USD , if you stay at least 3 nights, but not sure if the promos are available on your specific dates.

I agree--I have stayed there twice. Hotel Lavoisier (****) is the Tourville's sister hotel. It is near the Opera. Hotel Verneuil (***) in the 6eme arr. is also very nice. I have heard good things about Hotel du Champs de Mars (**), which is close to the Tourville (7eme arr.).

I just returned from a trip to Paris where I stayed at the Sofitel Demeure Astor. It's a tinge expensive (although we got a good deal through a discount special), but the room was lovely, the service was excellent, and the location was blessedly quiet (which can't be said for some of the hotels located directly on the major boulevards). And it has air conditioning--which came in handy last week, because it was unusually hot in Paris and most places don't have air conditioning.

It's 3 short blocks from the St. Augustin Metro station and is within walking distance of the Blvd. Haussman, the Place Madeleine, and the Rue St. Fauburg Honore.

Hello folks, I was wondering if any of you have stayed at the Quality Inn Abaca 330 Rue De Vaugirard? I am considering a trip there through gotoday.com which included this and a few other lower priced hotels. Any thoughts?
thanks,
Mark

Hello guys
Why not try www.beau-paris.com where you can bypass the rental company and deal directly with the owner. You'll end up with a much larger selection and better prices.
I booked a fabulous apartment from them during a recent stay. It was in the Latin Quarter and overlooked the streets and cafes and was only about 80 euros a night, we loved it!

I don't know if it's the same Holiday Inn Express but nice hotel, horrible commute to the city. The trains stop running around 9pm so basically, your sight-seeing has a curfew everyday. It's a nice hotel and breakfast but not recommended for those who want to see the city.

Can you be more specific about which property you rented? It's always nice to get details on an actual place someone stayed. Thanks!

Sorry about that !
The property we booked was on Gozlin Street - the one with the oldest bookstore in Paris ! The apartment is still available - even it's a bit tricky because they call it "La Librairie"... on www.beau-paris.com
Seems also we got a special rate last year (maybe because the place had just been added). The nighly rate now is about 100 euros/night.
Anyway - excellent location and very nice owners (both of them are artists and do their best to share their Paris experience).

Enjoy France ! Provence (South of France) is also a delight.

We recently stayed two nights at Hotel College de France (http://www.hotel-collegedefrance.com/) and loved it! Wonderful location just a short walk from Notre Dame and the Louvre. Just a couple blocks away were streets full of every kind of restaurant imaginable. Here's a link to my review on tripadvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187147-d271939-r4082525-Hotel_du_College_de_France-Paris_Ile_de_France.html)
