I have an overnight stay in HK before going to Shanghai the next day. Besides the airport hotel which is quite expensive, where would you recommend I stay? I arrive at 11 pm and leave the next day around 4 pm
Or does it really make a difference?

Secondly, which of the outlying islands like Lantau would you recommend for a one night stay? And which hotel?

Thirdly, which hotel would you recommend for a one night stay in Macau? The Holiday Inn is $50, the Hotel Beverly Plaza is HK$400, and the Hotel Sintra is $HK516. Those are the only ones I've seen.

Keep in mind, my budget is around $100 a night so the $300 a night hotels is probably not going to work. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

YMCA, Salisbury Rd. Kowloon ;
Holiday Inn, Kowloon

That should cover a range of pricing. There is also Hyatt Regency - Take the Airport Express to&fro.

My travel agent in HK was able to get me a harbor view room at the Harbour Plaza Hotel in Whampoa (15 minutes from Tsim Sha Tsui) for only 570 HKD (US $73) per night, which is already inclusive of the 13% tax. This is a five star property and the service rendered by the staff is impeccable. I just returned from HK on the 23rd of July and have more details in a similar post on the Cathay Pacific form.

Hotel Miramar is also available at only 380 HKD per night (US $48), which is also inclusive of taxes. This is a four star property in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The transfer to the airport from either property is very inexpensive. If you are interested in either of these deals, do not hesitate to contact me directly.
