Hello - I am thinking about a late May trip to Kotzebue area next year. I want to visit Kobuk, Nome and some of the region in that extreme North. Ive been all over SE Alaska and fell in love with it -- now, I want to see the extremes. A few years ago, I dreamed of driving the Dalton from CALIF, but gave up on it the more I read about how much damage to the car and how unprepared I really was for it all. This year I was set to head out to OTZ, but became very ill I had to cancel the trip last minute. Now, I see the NWA award is open and Im thinking about it again. Any one with any experiences in OTZ or Kobuk????

While I hate to stereotype, in general you might consider visiting Nome (OME) instead of Kotzebue (OTZ.) OTZ is very native and not always super keen on outsiders. You may find OME much more welcoming and one things for sure -- you will never forget the bars in Nome!

Ive thought about that .. for some reason I felt OTZ wouldnt welcome outsider for a week or so. Not sure how I would spend downtime anyway.
