Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is slated to receive $51.3 million in federal funds over the next six years to help pay for taxiway and runway improvements, government and airport officials said Monday.

The money will come from a pool of funds administered by the Federal Aviation Administration and earmarked for projects that add capacity to the nation's commercial air system.

Because of its central location, Anchorage International is a leading cargo airport in the Western Hemisphere. Federal Express, UPS and Northwest Air Cargo operate major hubs there.
