My husband and I are facing the same situation.

Here are a couple of recommendations that might help you in reducing the airfare.

One way tickets are normally more expensive than round trip. You might have to book a round trip and not use the last half of the ticket.

We search a couple different travel websites (www.orbitz.com, www.travelocity.com, (http://www.travelocity.com,) www.expedia.com) (http://www.expedia.com)) and search for both one way airfares and round trip airfares. If the price is cheaper for the round trip than we know that we will have to book a round trip. We first try getting a more economical price by bidding with Priceline (www.priceline.com) which only books round trip tickets. We have used Priceline numerous times and have had good luck with them. Also, you could try Hotwire (www.hotwire.com) but I feel you get a better deal with Priceline.

Also, when using the travel websites and you see a flight that works for you, sometimes booking the flight directly at the airline website will even save you more money (web fare only rates and no service fees).

Hope this helps and good luck. It is harder to get really good rates to and from Alaska during their prime season.
