A young pilot and his passenger were injured Sunday night when the pilot tried to take off after an unplanned landing in the Talkeetna Mountains and instead drove the small plane over a cliff.

Hobbled by leg sprains, the pair endured a four-hour hike out of the mountains, at one point following a moose because they had lost the trail.
