Kodiak -- Residents are hitting the beach in Kodiak, which is experiencing a spell of unusually warm, dry weather.
"I can't remember a summer like this," said Gary Ennen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service who has lived on the island for 50 years.
The current heat wave, which should continue through the rest of the week, hasn't yet broken any daily records, however, Ennen said. Monday's high was 72 degrees -- five degrees lower than last year's record-breaking 77.
Still, with four days in the 70s and many in the high 60s, it's been two or three degrees hotter than the normal average for August, the Kodiak Daily Mirror reported.
