Clean, quiet, central, safe. Don't care about public rooms, restaurants. Four nights. Mid-July. Copenhagen. Arriving by train, leaving by plane.
Suggestions?

Hi! I've stayed twice at the Ibis Star hotel located just behind the train station. Although this is located in the "red light" district of CPH, it is pretty safe.
Prices are good and so is standard, their link is:

There are two other Ibis-hotels in CPH as well, from what I've heard, Triton is the worst.

Thanks. That costs les than the other two I found from guide books - the Absalon and the Ascot.
An expensive city!

At the opposite end of the Strøget shopping street from Tivoli and the main station is the 3* Hotel Opera, just off Konigs Nytorv, opposite the Royal Theatre and a very short walk to Nyhavn and the Amalienboerg Palace. They run frequent specials at substantial savings off their rack rates :
Priceline has often been giving out cheap hotels in copenhagen, check out www.biddingfortravel.com (http://www.biddingfortravel.com) for bidding advice.
Another posibility if keeping the cost down is your real concern then http://www.absalon-hotel.dk/roomannex.html offers a cheapie 100 m from the main train station. Clean simple rooms including a typical danish hotel breakfast.
http://www.woco.dk/ is the official tourist site for copenhagen. There are also sometimes hotels on offer here.
Need any other advice on Copenhagen, post again and i would be happy to offer you some more insiders advice.
Kind regards

I did a b & b, whose service was under government regulation. Got a small, private bedroom in a ladies flat, comfortable, clean, quiet, cheap, and kitchen access. Not a hotel, but it was great to visit with a local. She happened to be the widow of a UN person, and had ridden her bicycle across the bridge to Sweden on the opening day!
You should be able to find a link to the program through their national tourism page.
Watch your billfold in the train/bus station. I had mine lifted there (bump on the escalator)...

I appreciate the heads up. I'm just back from Geneva where my wallet, including passport and credit cards was removed from my backpack. Bump at Cornavin, the main bus station, as I was transferring, zipper opened, another bump, I didn't realize until I was seated on the bus, then remembered the bumps!. Two hour train trip to Embassy in Bern to get new passport. Fortunately, no attempt to use any of the credit cards.
I've been looking at safe ways to carry money. Regardless of requirements, I'm only going to carry a photocopy of my passport (I was told I'd need my passport to register for the UN conference I was attending). Some cash. One card, with another in my room? And where on my person? None of the traveler stash items seem comfortable or practical.

There aren't any actual "cheap" hotels in Copenhagen from my extensive research for last summer. I did succeed with a 3* bid on Priceline for the Mermaid Hotel, but only at the last minute. We really liked this hotel, but I know anyone who expects an American-quality hotel would be disappointed. The bathrooms are eccentric, but they work fine. If you are okay knowing that, there are many excellent features. The breakfast buffet is wonderful. The location is fabulous. The staff were helpful and very nice.
If I were going back to Copenhagen, which I may be this summer, I would definitely want to stay at the Mermaid again. Just know that many people have other opinions.
