I'll be in Sweden for a couple weeks in Aug. What are the must sees and dos? Also, what is Surstromming and Lutfisk?

I suspect that lutfisk is the same dish they serve in minnesota & wisconsin, basically fish that is leached in lye for a week or two and then served. Not high on my list of desirable dishes, but I suppose I would taste it if I were there.
I spent a day in Sweden last year while staying in Copenhagen. If you get to that end of the country, consider riding the train across the new bridge to Copenhagen for the day. I was never asked for a passport, etc, so it was an easy trip. This month's Conde Nast Traveler magazine has a nice one page spread on spending a day in Copenhagen.

Sturstromming is fermented herring and, yes, lutfisk is dried fish that has been soaked in lye. My dad eats these things ... perhaps it helps explain why I'm a vegetarian. If you're looking to try some tasty Scandinavian foods, I much prefer cloudberries and lingonberries. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif
Sweden's beautiful. In Stockholm, you can visit old town, see the palace and the changing of the guard (some of the museums here are very good), take a ferry to Drottningholm Palace where the royal family lives and, if the weather's good, rent a canoe and take it out on the lake and enjoy a picnic. Don't miss Riddarholm Church and the Vasa Museum. http://www.vasamuseet.se/indexeng.html

I mentioned in another post to someone looking at Scandinavia next year that the new Europe magazine has a nice article on summer & festivals in these countries, and includes dates & lots of websites. If you can't find a copy, drop me a note, and I'll be glad to copy the pages for you.
