I happened to stay at Road Lodge, the only hotel at Cape Town Intl. Airport. It was extremely cheap (about USD 25), clean, comfortable and functional. The room had a double bed, a large armchair, a desk, and a small television. The bathroom had only a shower (no bath); the water pressure and heating was fine. Breakfast was about USD 3. This hotel is apparently part of a chain, consisting of various brands, called City Lodge Hotels Group. It can be found on the Internet at:

and, apparently for lower rates, at:

What do you consider cheap?

How far are you willing to walk or where do you want to walk?

BTW, walking at night in many parts of CT is not a good ideal for a tourist.

The airport is about 25K from the central city area.

Give or take USD 50-60 per night will get you any number of terrific B&B's in Cape Town, but the advice to avoid walking at night in CT is wise. Only in/around the immediate V&A Waterfront or very few other neighborhoods. It is a great city, and a wonderful destination, but don't walk around unless you know the area well.

You could spring for a backpackers lodge. They are cheap (average $26)and mostly clean and comfortable- and you can sleep in a dorm -or a private room for a bit more. One thing is...You must expect to have little to no sleep. These places party around the clock. There are several in all good areas in Cape Town. You can call a Rikki for cheap transport if you need.

I second the City Lodge recommendation... we stayed at the City Lodge V&A Waterfront & found it an ideal location. Not actually in the Waterfront but nearby and safely walkable, cheap, clean and new, with friendly staff and lots of free parking.
