Has anyone got any opinions of the Serena hotels. They seem nice from the web page but really worth it?

Depends on what you are looking for.

Serena Hotels tend to be rather large, as opposed to the small and intimate private game lodges that are the norm in southern Africa.

I've stayed at the Samburu Serena hotel. It was good. Felt very hotel-ish, meaning clean, nice, and a little impersonal. Food is decent, bar is friendly and nice, rooms are well finished, coffee was the best I've ever had, baboons hung out near the bar.

Bottom line - I was very happy with the choice, but would try a new place next time.
