I am traveling to Capetown and wish to stay in the city as opposed to the waterfront. Can anyone suggest a really nice hotel there?
Thanks

I stayed at the Mount Nelson.... What's your price range?

Mount Nelson is the most expensive and totally overrated and tired Hotel in Central Cape Town.If you want to get traditional and fleeced then stay here. I would suggest a Boutique Hotel like Ellerman House if you want to spend that kind of money.
Cape Grace has been rated as #1 in world. However pricey, over $400. I think the WaterFront area is a bit to touristy. If you can get to hotels priced for the locals you get great money value. I used to stay here http://cybercapetown.com/Ambassador/ many years ago and enjoyed the fact that many rooms looked directly on the sea.
Here is a link to South African based web search for hotels:

I can recommend the Cullinan. Not so expensive but very nice. The location is great(next to the Holiday Inn Waterfront) opposite the new convention center. Shuttle service to the Waterfront and Canal Walk. The area is safe. We always walk back to the hotel from Long Street at night and we felt safe.
My girlfriend is staying there a lot in the African summer months and also many other models and TV/photo crews are staying there and doing shootings in the hotel or at the pool.
It is also the Virgin crew hotel so if you ever wanted to party with them try this hotel... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

I loved the Mount Nelson when we stayed there 15 months ago. Service was extraordinary. I like the spacious grounds - plenty of places to sit inside and out, enjoying a book and a beverage.
