View Full Version : Where to go in Southern Africa?

Well, I sincerely hope that people are reading this board, since I have to make a decision in the next two days...

I am setting up a trip coming up, and I have to choose one additional destination that is accessable from JNB. I am thinking of VFA, PLZ, or HRE, and I don't know much about Africa since I have never been there, so should I also consider LUN and some of the other more remote areas? To give a little background, I already have arrangements for CPT, JNB, and WDH, and I need to go where the BA affiliates go. In that area, it seems that Comair has things pretty well covered.

My travel style is lower than it seems many on the board are used to, though I don't go as far as backpacking. I also will be traveling alone. I enjoy cities and relaxation, and will be able to spend about a week in whatever place I decide on. Feel like I'm writing a personal ad.

For that matter, if you think there are two that would be worth it, I could possibly pay more to go.

Thanks for any replies, as they are *greatly* appreciated.

I'm not sure if it's really accessable from JNB, but if you have the time, I would definitely recommend going to Madagasar... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif Also, VFA would be an excellent place to visit as well..

I would strongly recommend VFE The falls are gorgeous, the hotels are very nice and the cruise on Zambesi river is out of the world. You can try Mauritius or seychelles if you are a beach and snorkelling fan. BA flies both routes twice a week from Nairobi and you can reach Nairobi from HRE for about 150$

Thanks for the replies, and I will reply to the one who sent me email when I get home from work later. Running late at the moment. Madagascar sounds fascinating, but I think I have a few limitations like time and money. But I did actually look into it. Drbala, I imagine Victoria Falls as being a more high-end place with expensive and luxury hotels. Is there also some budget digs there?

My original intent was to do lon-sez-nbo-mru-lon. The problem is that I wasn't able to get my act together fast enough to get the ticketing done, and BA is dropping the one stop to MRU. It is going to a non-stop, which also drops the MRU-NBO option. This happens in mid-October, and I can't get down there fast enough to be able to take advantage of it. The nbo connection is continuing to sez and starting to some other city. Maybe Dar-Es-Salam or something.

Good luck
There are budget digs near by either at the Zambian side or at the Zimbabwe side. Only the hotels at the Falls are expensive
My son in law is from Zambia lives in London. He has just returned from Zambia and Zimbabwe. If you have specific questions email me and I will get answers from him
