I will be in Rome for a week for the first time at the end of next month. I have been told the area around Termini station is seedy and Trastevere is too far away from everything. Is the area around Spanish steps the best situation
Thanks in advance

If it is to be, it is up to me
I stayed at the St. Regis Grand in June and had a great stay. Could walk to most places. Trastevere was one of my favorite places to eat but it was quite a ways away so I wouldn't stay there.

I like staying in the old part of Rome. I'm very happy with the Crowne Plaza Holiday Inn, just one block from the Pantheon. It's easy to walk to Rome's beautiful squares and fountains, and there are terrific restaurants within a short walk of the hotel.

You're right, the area around Termini is seedy. Staying in the area around the Spanish Steps is great. The last time I was in Rome I stayed at the Hotel Excelsior on Via Veneto; it was very nice and well located. Central Rome is pretty compact and it is easy to walk or take the subway to most of the major tourist attractions.

Hassler Villa Medici
One of the most luxurious hotels in Rome looks out over the Trinità
dei Monti stairs; great tradition, prestige and elegance join together
with careful attention for the guest.
