Last year we flew to Copenagen for a cruise using miles (business class). On the way back the footrests on the seats was being replaced on our side of the plane, so they gave us all vouchers for a couple of hundred dollars "for the inconvience". I never use the foot rest, but didn't turn down the vouchers.
We're going back in October to use the vouchers (two round trips for $200 each when it's all said and done), and I'm looking for suggestions for a hotel for a few days, preferably a bit on the historic side that won't cost an arm and leg. We were at the SAS (the one with the casino) last year, and while we liked it, the wife wants something a bit less modern if possible.
Many thanks,
Mike

I can't give you a name. But one hint: go in a first class hotel. I went once in a hotel in Copenhagen, saved a couple of dollars but the hotel was lousy. Same happened to me in Vienna.
I stayed in Copenhagen in August 2000, and used the government tourism agency's bed and breakfast program. Mine was probably lower end, but the room was great, comfortable, quiet, clean and cheap ($35-$40, I think). Definately not modern, and there's nothing like staying with a local to learn the good places to go.
Here's a link to the program:

Unsolicited advice: I enjoyed trips out of Copenhagen much more than the city. I especially enjoyed the three days I spent on Fano, an island on the west coast. Touristy around the beach, very scenic villages on each end of the island, including a windmill. I was probably the only American there.

CORDELLI--
Try the Phoenix Copenhagen. It is in a restored histoirc mansion that was until quite recently, the HQ of the Danish Communist Party! It was fully rennovated and restored after the latter disbanded, and they were so sucessful, they are a member of the Concorde hotel chain.
The company that rennovated the hotel also has some other properties in CPH. I think that one is called Nyhaven 71 (?), which is somewhat less expensive, and is a former warehouse on the Nyhavaen pier. The Phoenix is about a 5 min. walk from both the Royal Palace, as well as Nyhaven, and a bus stops right in front of the hotel. In addition, there is parking if you need it.
Finally, it has a great buffet breakfast in the morning. Do a Google search to find the website of the company that owns both hotels, or if the Phoenix appeals to you, then you can find info on it via the Concorde website.

Thanks everybody.
I never considered a B and B, but will take a look. It's funny, the couple of hotels Doc 2 Be mentions were ones we were looking at, but I didn't want to book something based on their website. We all have been in hotels and wondering what property the website was talking about, since it certainly wasn't the same place we were staying.
Many thanks.

Cordelli --
Just to be clear, I stayed at the Phoenix for 6 nights and it was great! By the way, there is a wonderful salad place along the pier in Nyhaven. You can get it topped with all sorts of seafood or meats and it is not expensive. However, they only take cash.
You may also want to try St. Gertrude's Kloster, since it is very atmospheric for dinner. Everything by candlelight!

The information you can get around here always amazes me. I have actually had salads there, they are totally incredible, and certainly a place we have to visit again.
