What is a good price to pay to buy pesos? I'm seeing exchange rates anywhere from 2.68 to 3.09. The low was my bank and the high was an internet rate. Not sure if it was an interbank rate.

A good and easy place to check rates between most currencies.

Thanks, I was there earlier and can't determine if that is a "street" rate or an interbank rate.
My bank wants 2.68 and I can't figure out if it is good or not.

Well, the current rate is 2.80-2.86 pesos.
Wait until you're in Argentina.

I second this. Use an ATM and you get a good rate. Bloomberg gives this rate right now: 2.8275.
Your 3+ rate might be the rate, when you BUY US-$ (with pesos).

I withdrew cash with my citibank atm card in Buenos Aires three days ago (I'm back in San Francisco now). The rate was 2.79, no atm surcharges. Banks were paying between 2.76 and 2.80. If you can get cash from an atm, do it.

I second the use of the Citibank ATM's. Also EZE has one (in a locking glass booth) just as you "enter the country" before the bus transit counter.
Avoid the cambios on the street since you might get a wad of fake pesos!
Enjoy the US$ 0.90 lunches and US$ 7.00 steak dinners (including drinks, too!)
I love BA....
