By the way, if your passport is almost expired and you think you may be returning to Chile, its good for the life of the passport so you may want to renew first.

Cash only accepted (no credit cards). Must be in USD and bills should be in good condition.

Note also that the reciprocity booth is on the left as you come down the escalator. If you don't have the payment stamp in your passport showing the payment, PAY BEFORE YOU HIT THE IMMIGRATION LINE. If you don't, the immigration person will just send you back to pay it, and you wait in line again.

Also note that this seems to be a characteristic of Santiago only, not of other points of entry into Chile.

I got a visa from Chile entering in the Andes. I flew out of SCL. If I fly into SCL with my old stamp will I have to pay?

Your passport needs to have the stamp (not the entry stamp) with the receipt, showing amount paid, stapled on top of it.

After reading this thread, I thought "I'll just go and check my passport and see if my entry receipt from a previous vist to Santiago Aug 2002 is OK".

To my surprise the line stating "valid for life of passport" has a black pen line through it, and typed underneath is the statement "valid for 90 days". ????

From previous research I had understood it was valid for the life of the passport.

Any ideas?

Dani (By the way my passport is Australian)

Does anybody know if I have to pay this as a German as well?

I believe citizens of E.U. member nations are not charged a fee for Chile (and Brasil).

My recollection is that the sign stated that this fee was only for citizens of Canada and and the U.S.A.

My husband holds a Spanish passport and does not need to pay any entrance fee.

As far as I know US citizens(US$100), Canadians(US$55), Mexicans (US$15) and Australians(US$30) need to pay the fee.

However, it looks like the fee is once off (for life of passport) for US citizens but NOT for Australians.
