I am going to be in Buenos Aires for about ten days starting on Saturday, and I am thinking about visiting Punta del Este for a couple of days.

Has anyone had any experiences with l'Auberge (an SRS property) there? Any other hotel recommendations The important things: beach, near but not surrounded by nightlife (no car), clean and comfortable.

Generally, is Punta del Este worth the trip? Some sort of beach component of this Buenos Aires trip is in order considering the temperatures in Boston this week....

Thanks,

Have you considered Mar del Plata ?? It does have a better nightlife (bars, nightclubs) but it is crowded. You will have a better time !

How do you recommend to travel to Mar del Plata? The train from B.A.? Is Punta del Este going to be dull?

Thanks!

I found Mardel one of the most disappointing places I ever went. It seems like it was the "jewel" resort for southern South America about 30 to 40 years ago. The fact that the weather was awful, too, didn't help. The comment from every argentino was "why didn't you go to Punta?"

I was in Punta del Este about 11 months ago, and was disappointed. The beaches were not much compared to the rest of the world's fine beaches. I would not go back for beach purposes, although I enjoyed the Uruguyan people and the other aspects of the trip.
