I'll be flying from Santiago, Chile, to Toronto, and am stuck with a torturous 10-hour layover in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Any suggestions?

Do Canadians need a visa to leave the airport? If so, make sure you plan in advance. If you have a DC card, one perk has been limo service to/from the city (comp) - so you could check something out in town that way. Otherwise, you are TWOV and stuck in the airport.

I visited friends in Sao Paulo about 8 years ago and had a great time. I made some comments in this link:

I know this is resurrecting a thread from the dead- but hey I did a search;)
Anyone who has a long layover in GRU should look at the day stay packages at the Best Western -about $US50 with airport transfers included.

The terms and conditions say valid till 31/12/07 but its still boookable
Bookable even!

Canadians do need a visa to visit Brazil. As such, you probably won't be able to get through customs/immigration without it. The GRU international terminal is a miserable place to spend 10hrs. There is a Varig *G Lounge & a UA RCC *G Lounge (depending on terminals).
If you don't have a *G access, I'd try and get a visa to get out of the airport. Unfortunately, this will cost you several hundred dollars for the visa application.
A 10hr layover in GRU + another 10hr flight will make for a very long day.

In 2003 a 10 hour layover was even worse.
In 2003 a 10 hour layover was even worse.
In 2008 a 10 hour layover is still even worse. :)
