I am planning a trip this winter. I will fly into B.A. and out of Montevideo on UA. How should I plan on getting from B.A. to Punta? Years ago I took the overnight ferry from B.A. to Montevideo and then the train to Punta. What are the options these days? It it worth it to spend much time in Montevideo?

There are plenty of posts on this subject, but I don't know how to search for them with this new website.

Anyhow, I flew Argentinias Aerolineas from the domestic airport (AEP) in BA to PDP. Note that you need to take a lengthy bus trip or taxi between the EZE and AEP. Ideally you'll spend a day or two in BA before you head to PDP. Business class is only a few dollars more than coach and is well worth it for the private transport and lounge in PDP.

Montevideo is nice, but it doesn't compare with the beach action in PDP depending on the time of year.

On my first trip to Buenos Aires I visited Punta after reading about it in the Wall Street Journal. After visiting a few times, I bought an apartment there. In any event, I would take the fast boat (Buquebus?)from Buenos Aires into Montevideo. I think the crossing takes about 2-3 hours. The company has a website. When I visit Punta I rent a car at the airport. The drive from MVD to Punta is nice, traffic not bad. My best experience is from Avis, and worst from Hertz. In fact, I will never rent from Hertz again after they charged me $123.00 for a broken key--as if I would brake a key on purpose!! Get in touch with me if you have further questions on Punta.

Wow! An apartment. That is fantastic. Thanks, both of you for the information. I was in B.A., Montevideo and Punta while travelling after "studying abroad" in Ecuador. I'm finally planning to get back to the southern part of the continent as a birthday present to myself at the end of the year. I plan on several days in B.A., a couple at Iguazu, then Montevideo and Punta to end the trip. Rest assured, bkkth, I'll contact you later. Thanks for the offer.
