I spend a lot of time in Thailand. I've tried but I can't get a decent bike in Bangkok for the price/quality I expect. Also, Thai made bikes just do not fit this 6'3" American. Sure I can buy a Cannondale or Trek in Bangkok, but the import mark up is huge. My plan is to buy one next time I fly through Singapore and bring it to BKK.

Can anyone give me any local advice on where you would shop for a quality mountain bike (eg. Trek, Gary Fisher, GT, Cannondale)? I'm sure walking around Orchard road aimlessly is not going to yeild me the best result, even though it is always very entertaining.

I can get around Singapore very easily, as most do anyway. So I'll go anywhere in Singapore to get the deal. Local Singaporeans please divulge.

The shops I've seen to have been mostly in the Bukit Timah area. I think most MT enthusiasts bike the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and there are shops at the foot of the hill, IIRC.

Sorry I used to be more hardcore in college but my Giant 890 has been rusting away for years in my garage.
