I am in Singapore June 13, 2003 for a couple of weeks working and wondering if there is anything interesting to do. I would like to spend the weekend in either MAlaysia or Indonesyia.

Welcome to Flyertalk Lager http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif
Singapore is one of the most traveled to destinations for Flyertalkers. Use the Search function in the upper right hand corner of the page. Type in Singapore and you will find much information.
There is also a dining section on Singapore in the Flyertalk Dining Forum
And last but not least, in the Trip Reports Forum, there is a TON of information as many have written up trip reports on Singapore.
After reading all this information you will have a terrific understanding of Singapore.
The public trasportation issue is covered here: http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/Forum21/HTML/000011.html
Have fun.

I suggest that you check out Langkawi, Malaysia (see the Sheraton forum).
Indonesia is close, Batam is like Tijuana.
Bintam apparantly is more of a resort island. I have not been there, have been to Batam. Both are a short ferry ride from Singapore. Batam ferries leave from the World Trade Center.
An actual quote from the conceirge at the Hilton concerning Batam.
"Why are you going there? It is dangerous, do not take much money and keep it in your front pocket. Oh well, you look like you can handle yourself!"
I was not particularly uncomfortable there on a day trip. Kept alert just like I do on the New York Subway going to Brooklyn. It was a fine trip around Sentosa and through the shipping channels in an open air ferry. It is a distinct contrast to Singapore, but so is JB (Johor Bahru). Probably worth another day trip to see the contrast of Peninsular Malaysia.
Enjoy.
Thanks a lot for the info I will check it out.
