I'm going to have 1 full day (a Sunday) in SIN.

My previous visit was on a run, so just had time to eat with other flyertalkers.
This time, I have an entire day to kill.

Anyone have recommendations on what to do? I'd like to start early.
I'll be closing out the day with other 'runners' at midnight for the usual cheap eats. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/biggrin.gif

EDIT: I've done some reading already. But SIN, like NYC has so many things to do. I'm just looking for the highlights.

EAT EAT EAT

Walk and take the lightrail/subway if you like to see the people and country. You can take the lightrail almost around the entire country for a few dollars. Chinatown, Little India, and Arab Street areas are worth seeing. Go in a mosque or two. Check out the Raffles Hotel, and maybe have a Singapore Sling in the upstairs bar where it was invented. Have dinner outside at the Boat Quay (key) or other Quay on the river. Walk around the old buildings and see the Merlion fountain. Orchard Street is full of fancy shopping and hotels if that means anything to you. Enjoy........

The other quay is Clarke Quay. Home of the "Satay Club" but I prefer the open air restaurants at Boat Quay.

Sunday on Orchard Road is particularly interesting in that it's the day off for all of the housekeepers - they congregate outside the malls and hang out together all day.

In SIN for a day hey...

Catch the MRT from the airport.

I would say, take a visit to Orchard Road (Orchard MRT station) look around at the shops and think about anything you'd like to buy. Could come back if you didn't want to lug things

Visit chinatown (outram park station was open at the time, there is another one due to open soon), and look around eat at some of the food places, i like this little place opposite the keong saik hotel and order some fried kway teow, yum yum.

perhaps take a visit to raffles hotel and get a singapore sling, if you are game take a cable car to sentosa island and back or even make a day of it at sentosa (being the kid i am, i love going there if I had a full day to spare).

take a trip to little india get some malay food in the afternoon or indian, yum. You could also visit their famous zoo, unfortaunately night safari would be ruled out for you, they also have a great science museum, jurong bird park, but do what singapore is famous for - eating and shopping, though nowhere near as cheap as malaysia in my view! there is also some good shopping in suntec city in the marina/raffles city precinct. You could also try a singapore chilli mud crab around the area, try shopping at people's park in chinatown, the list is endless..

UPDATE.

Would you believe it if I told you that it rained the 1 day I was in SIN!!

Anyway, some of us hung out at the Conrad lounge till noon. At that time San Diego 1K suggested that we take the 'hop-on, hop-off bus for a 2 hour mini-tour of the city. Cost is SIN$6, about US$3.25.
Four of us stayed on till we hit the Indian area. I've never been to India, but if this is what it's like, DEPRESSING, but very interesting.
Orchard Street shopping looked pretty darn good. Lots of activity.
