Hot tip for Kobe beef in Tokyo -- Mon Cher Ton Ton in Rappongi. I ate there last week on my arrival night. Excellent beef. Excellent service. Fun walk-around neighborhood.

If I remember correctly, I've been there before and it's owned by Seryna (also excellent). It is quite good. As you would expect for Kobe beef...expensive. Depending on quantity and size of set meal, expect JPY15,000 - 25,000 per person.

Is it safe to eat beef in Japan now? They do have confirmed mad cow diseases there, you know.

Make sure that someone in your party is trained to do the Heimlich Procedure. Often, you will find this steak served with chopsticks as cutting instruments. Actually, my recommendation is to forgo the beef in Japan and concentrate on fish. Nothing better than dry-aged U.S. beef, served with steak-knives.
