Sure 1 day in SIN may be a waste but it is too good of a mileage run opportunity to pass up.

Besides having a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel, what else should one do if he has ONE day in Singapore?

Personally, chexfan, having been to Singapore so many times and having had the famed Raffles SS on more than one occasion, I'd be awfully inclined to simply skip it! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Take a cab to the Marriott on Orchard Road (or the subway to Orchard station). Great for people watching, eating food from the hawkers, and shopping. Enough stuff to see and do to fill an entire day!

I found a lot of the 'tourist' sights to be a little on the dull side -- especially since I had just come from BKK.

Unless you have kids, avoid Sentosa. The botanic gardens are nice, especially for morning/evening jogging. The orchid gardens inside are especially gorgeous. Orchard road is technically touristy but good mix of locals there. For some serious culture-hopping, check out Arab St and Chinatown.. I think Bugis Junction is a lot more interesting than Orchard. Oh yea, and.. ALL tourist malls are the same!

Food is excellent everywhere, including at the airport. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

The Nonya lunch buffet at the Kings Hotel is excellent, IMHO. Check out a hawker center or two to sample some other foods. Chilli or Black Pepper crabs at an East Coast restaurant are great. Someone mentioned Chinatown, check out one of the wet markets there if you're not too squeamish. Boat Quay and Clarke Quay are lively nighttime areas.
