Hay anybody experienced the Sukhothai? What about the Oriental? The pix in the net don't look to promising (at least from an architects point of view)...

The Sukhothai is absolutely my favorite hotel in BKK.It is almost one of the major
reasons why I spend a night or two when I am in BKK getting new RTW fares.
A little convinient from the hussle and bussle of the city centers, well who wants to stay next to Silom?; the hotel's location in quiet diplomatic neighborhoods affords one of the most resort-like tranquil setting that comes with a lotus filled pond and a very attractive large lapsize swimming pool and tennis courts. The designer of the hotel is Mr. Tuttle who designed the famed Amanpuriin Phuket, Who needs to say more?
The hotel's thai restaurant, Celadon, is rated among the best in BKK, too.
Oriental is just fine and often number 1 rated! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif
The Sukothai, off the beaten path at S. Sathorn Rd, is also just wonderful. It's more resort like groundss are very pleasing and there is lots of wood & art in large rooms. In addition to Celadon, there is/was also a fine Italinan retaurant Terrazzo(?) and a third more eclectic international one which I think is called Colonnade. There's a Sunday jazz brunch which is notable as well. The service here is widely reputed to be unrivaled as well.
Have you considered the Peninsula?

The Marriott on Sukhumvit Soi 2 was excellent -- it is difficult to go wrong at a Marriott! The Novotel Siam Square is in an excellent location -- didn't see the rooms though.
Grand President on Sukhumvit SOi 11 is an excellent choice. Very reasonable rack rate at 1750 Baht. Full facilities.

I just got back two weeks ago from BKK and will leave again on Monday. I love the Oriental and also enjoy the Penninsula.
You can't beat them.
