FOR $809 RT, THINK NEW DELHI, INDIA THROUGH MAY 31, '01
It's not very often that we talk about bargain airfares to India. It is
usually one of the more expensive destinations for travel from the U.S.
For the next week (through March 22, 2001), you can purchase tickets to
New Delhi at discounts of $700, $800 and more. We have one simple fare
from over 80 U.S. cities (including Hawaii and Anchorage, Alaska)--$809
roundtrip. We are also offering a free stopover in either Hong Kong or
London. If you thought you couldn't afford a trip to India, think again.
If you can travel between April 1 through May 31, 2001, visit
http://www.bestfares.com/travel/desks/story.asp?id=9864 for the free
London stopover, or visit
http://www.bestfares.com/travel/desks/story.asp?id=9982
for the free Hong Kong stopover.

United is offering no-advance purchase fares ("Delhi Celebration" promotion) of "$899" RT (less 5% if booked online). However, if you can apply the $100 discount (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/005276.html), wouldn't that work out better than what Best Fares is offering?
http://www.itn.net/cgi/get?itn/air/uamultipromo/index
(This one also allows HKG/LON stopover.)

Current quotes for 2004 Christmas and New Years time frame are running $1600+, when do airfares for India go on sale or is this a going economy rate?

Where are you travelling from in the USA? From San Francisco or LA, the peak season rates (Dec 12 to around Dec 28) are about $1500. From the east coast they should be about $150-$200 cheaper. These are the consolidator rates.

Call Global Air Travel 1800-666-4665. These guys are fantastic and have great rates as well.
I purchase from them regularly. They have direct deals with the consolidators and will be able to provide good rates.

I'd say that from your location (Chicago) BA or Air India would be around 1100+ if you go through a reliable consolidator.

Best deal is two tickets on the same carrier. Cheap US to Europe flight and then a Europe to India flight. It could be as cheap as 850 + tax that way and rarely will go over $1300 that way for coach.
Another option is a cheap flight to Bangkok (like 600 to 750 + tax) and then a separate BKK to India flight (like 200 to 300 + tax).

Keep in mind that it will be VERY hot here (I'm in Delhi right now). Temperatures hit mid-80s in the afternoon and it's only going to get hotter. I'm here on business and very few people from my office are planning to travel there between now and October, so the airlines are trying to fill the seats.
India is an amazing place, though- c'mon down!

I don't know about seats, but I had a number of Travel Agents here in NYC area say seats are hard to come by ;) but for the right price, say 14++ to 1700... LoL they can get you a seat, for July-August trip....

I am looking for a Business class ticket from LAX to DEL departing late Oct to mid Nov (very flexible). About 2 years ago I was able to get the same for about $2,600 but am having trouble this time around finding something below $4,000. Can someone suggest a travel agent or another means to obtain such a ticket for less?

Try booking GSO-BKK-GSO, and then book on thaiair.com for BKK-BOM-BKK. Sometimes, TG has web specials that can bring the total air fare down. The cons to this is that you only get 20kg of checked luggage allowance for BKK-BOM-BKK, since its a separate ticket from the GSO-BKK-GSO ticket, where you get 2pcs, 70lbs each.
Also look into flying to CMB from BKK, and then booking CMB-BOM. Its complicated, but if the price difference is big enough, it might be worth it.

Well since everyboyd's on the topic, I'm looking for something maybe YYZ-AMS-DEL or AUS-AMS-DEL, or somewhere in europe for a couple of days anyway. Deep discount is good enough for me if anybody knows any :) Timeframe for departure is November. Return around Jan but as long as its changeable.

Hey thanx for the advice. I called them back and got offered $2040 ..... looks like I'll have to keep trying. Getting to NYC is not a problem but costs about $200 and the fares I have received from NYC are about the same amount cheaper. Are you seeing something better?
Any advice?

I seen some fare around 1300's... But No seats Available... You need to talk to an Agent about that...
There is one agency based in DC, and I believe they are Consolidators… But I can’t remember what name was…
I’ll keep looking, but in the mean time, search in Yahoo or Google Indian Travel Agents… Click on the hits you get if it list any number trying calling them up…

Hey Mark,
I did fly NWA. The flights were ok and the connections were good but unfortunately they lost my bags for 3-4 days and damaged my laptop (which they had made me gate check). All this and no compensation either :(.

AC and Dwiss have a code share day flt ex ZRH on AC metal leaving at 0945 and arriving DEL 2145. Flt starts ops on Oct.30
They have also announced a code share flt ex ZRH to BOM starting Oct.30 on Swiss metal. this flt leaves ZRH at 1000.
The late departure ex MUC is convinient for europeans as this spares us from wasting a day flyin to India and spending the early hours of the day in DEL waiting for a connecting domestic flight in the wee hours.
