View Full Version : HIV Testing requirement?

I've got the paperwork in for a one-year business visa. If I read the fine print in some Web sites, if you enter with a visa for "one year or longer" you need to be tested for HIV (but can do it before you leave home). My company has provided thorough instructions about everything else but hasn't mentioned this even though they recommend one-year visas.

Is this because the law is selectively enforced? In other words, if I'm 51, female, married and coming in on a business visa, will they not ask? I have a couple more appointments for follow-up Hepatitis immunizations left so I have no problem with getting tested- just want to know if it's necessary.

Thanks.

This does not give any indication on your concerns. However, you should call the appropriate consulate directly.
If you plan to visit Inida on a semi regular basis, ou should get a 10 year visa.

They are referring to visas that allow you to REMAIN in India for >1yr for each visit. This is otherwise referred to as a "Foreigners Residence Permit".

The regular business visa is valid for 10 yrs, but restricts you to 180 days on each visit. Hence, it does not require you to obtain an HIV test.

Hope this clears things up.

Thanks- I feel better! (Not that I was worried about flunking it. ;-) )

Just got the passport back from the visa service in record time- they got it Monday.
