I'll find myself in Pune for the first time in early February. I've been warned that the business class hotel options are few and far between. Can anyone recommend a good place? (As a guide to my hotel preferences, I usually stay in the (old) Oberoi in Bombay--love that place.)

There are mainly three 5 STAR level hotels in Pune. International chains are Le Meridian and Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn was recently bought out by Sun & Sand group. Holiday inn property has much better location than Le Meridian, which right behind the railway station and can be chaotic outside. I preferred Holiday Inn food to Le Meridian because it is well spiced / flavoured. Le Meridian food is more bland...but again it is a matter of personal choice.

After these two one can save some Money by staying at Blue Diamond which is the first and oldest 5 STAR in Pune. It is a nice property and has good restaurants and food. All the three Hotels have a good selection of restaurant.

Apart from these other prominent hotels are Pride executive, Sagar Plaza, Aurora towers in the decreasing order of ratings. All these are 3-4 STAR rated. There is another new one Near "Shimla Office, Shivaji Nagar" (I can't recall the name).

One can also find various smaller local Hotels which are fairly new, clean and offer good accommodation. These can save you a bunch of money. However some of these might be far from your destination or Center City. Your selection will depend upon what is the purpose of visit, which part of the city you are visiting during this trip, what is your budget (if any) and your personal preferences.

I've recently stayed at the "Centaurian" which is a "Quality Inn" chain hotel. It is few blocks from Pride Hotel, has in-room internet and is only 1-2 years old so plumbing etc is more modern than Pride. Rooms have heavy street noise but such is life for a 3-4 star hotel in india. Anyways, i found this a good bargain compared to my other options on recent trip. Finally got a reservation to Le Meridian in a few weeks and am anxious to try that one.

LeMeridien then Taj Blue Diamond. Both can be used to earn miles in various airline programs. :)

Yes, but both of them are very hard to get reservations there.(I tend to go to Pune last minute - 5 times this year so far) In that case, Centaurian is now my bet assuming the above 2 are already booked.
