I am in the process of booking a trip to Bora Bora and Moorea. The TA is recommending the Pearl Beach Hotel on Bora Bora and the Beachcomber on Moorea. I wanted to book Le Meriden on Bora Bora, but they are full for my dates. I have been offered a premium overwater bungalow at Pearl Beach and a beach bungalow at the Beachcomber on Moorea. The last night will be at the Beachcomber on Tahiti in a deluxe panoramic room. I would appreciate the guidance of fellow FT'ers who have been to these islands.
Is there anything that I should know about the inter-island flights?
Also, any tips for activities, excursions and restaurants. My last night will be on Tahiti, is there a special restaurant there to finish off the trip with?

I went to Tahiti for Christmas and stayed at the Sofitel. I liked the Hotel, the staff was very friendly. We did a snorkel.shark feeding excursion and went by the Beachcomber. The place looks awesome. The bungalows are situated very nicely in a lagoon type feel. I'm almost positive the Dolphin show is there too. The hotel is rumored to be the best on the island. Great location. Also near the stingrays.

Can you recommend any of the restaurants on the island. How were the inter-island flights? Was there any over-booking and bumping?

I would definitely recommend a restaraunt called "Little Turtle". That's the English translation. There's also an Itlaian restaraunt. There's not too many restaraunts to choose from. The French drown their food in rich sauces. Prices are modest. No tipping there is nice perk.
Not sure about flights. We just spent 1 night at the Westin in Tahiti and flew over to Moorea. Heard Bora Bora is real quiet.
One thing that was odd in Tahiti is that there's stray dogs everywhere. Take bug spray for sure. Stay as close to the water to avoid bugs. The people of the islands are huge. They all have big heads and big feet. As for hotels, I think there's Sheraton on the island, heard by locals, that the staff are all gay. Just to give you the heads up.
Overall, It's a real nice island the people were friendly.

Here is a thread or two that might be of interest (I'm also trying to do some research for a trip to Tahiti):

We loved Bora Bora. Spent most of a day on at a "fish preserve". Snorkling in "pens", thereby insuring sights, a nice picnic lunch and pleasent surroundings.
Tahiti museum was a disappointment. If you do not speak french, you might want to avoid Le Truck, although the taxi fares are outrageous.

Allaboutmiles, that was the funniest post I've read on FT in a long, long time. Thank-you for the laughs! I shall go to bed happily dreaming of Tahitians with big heads and big feet... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Just got back from a trip to French Polynesia (December). I actually went on a cruise, but following our disembarkment in Papeete, Tahiti, we had practically an entire day on the island before our flight left that evening. The boat had arranged for transfers at local hotels. I was at Le Meridian in Tahiti. The regular rooms are pretty bad, however, I heard that the bungalows over the water are nice and much better (there was a couple there who told us that they stayed in the bungalows before the cruise, but for the day transfer they were in a regular room. They said that there is a HUGE difference in the quality of rooms).
If you go to Bora Bora, I recommend eating at Bloody Mary's. We ate there, the food was great and the scenery is pretty cool too. Before you are seated they take you to a little freezer area where they have all of their fresh catches laid out for you to pick what you'd like to eat. They also have an all sand (beach) floor which they replenish annually. We checked our shoes at the door http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

I totally agree with you about Bloody Marys. It was the best meal on Bora Bora. IMHO, avoid Top Dive which was a ripoff.
