Thousands of drivers will be paying as much as $20 in tolls by the end of the decade for a day trip to Bondi Beach or to pick up a relative from the airport.
With the State Government pressing ahead with road projects such as the Lane Cove tunnel and the Western Sydney Orbital, drivers can expect a high-speed network of freeways to be operating by 2010.
But modelling prepared for the Herald by BIS Shrapnel suggests that on current estimates of inflation, tolls of more than $4 will become commonplace. Many trips across the city will require the use of more than one tollway.
