I already received information about Sydney but I paid for my trip now and I need to know about the main attractions and things to do in Cairns and Melbourne (Sydney too if there is anything new going on). I am going at the end of December and leaving on the first of January. I bought the Lonely Planet book but I appreciate all the information that I can receive first hand.Thanks.

I am sure there are plenty of people who will be able to help you out with lots of tips and information. I can not give you any first hand knowledge about Cairns, but I can say I watched a long show about it on the travel channel. I spent some time in Australia and Cairns was someplace I would have loved to have seen. It looks so wonderful. So if you get the chance to go...by all means...Go!! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

Check out www.melbourne.citysearch.com.au/ (http://www.melbourne.citysearch.com.au/) its the best site. There is a FREE tram (trolley car) which loops the CBD all day. Depending on time, the Great Ocean Road is spectacular (needs a whole day minimum), the Dandenongs are beautiful, as are the gardens on each corner of the city. Restaurants in Lygon Fitzroy Acland and Smith streets provide any fare you desire. Drink our red wine, its outstanding value. If you are in Melbourne on New Years Eve, try Southbank for the fireworks on the Yarra River. A river cruise to Williamstown is worthwhile. Enjoy our beautiful city.

Thanks for the replies. I already have the accomodations for the whole trip, and a tour in each place; Sydney, Cairns and Melbourne but I am staying 3 nights in each one and I need to plan the other days and nights.

Thanks John Cogley. I am staying in Melbourne for New Years Eve and I will try Southbank for the fireworks on the Yarra River. I'll check to see if can book a river cruise to Williamstown too. The website has a good visitor guide. Thank you so much.

If anyone knows about good places to go or activities to do in Sydney for Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, I would appreciate, if you can share the information.
