We are looking for a hotel in SYD. Has anybody already tried the Regent's Court or the Medusa?

Any other recommendations?

It has no view but the Merchant Court is a new, well-maintained hotel right in the shopping district.

Occasionally, there are very good rates (A$132/nt) at the Australian local site of www.lastminute.com (http://www.lastminute.com)

We loved the Hotel Inter-Continental. Stayed a few times here.

It is the old Treasury building, very nice property. Good location (2 blocks away from the Quay/Opera House/gardens).

Also, if you book an Executive level room (only 30 AUS more) you get breakfast in the Executive Lounge (great spread) and courtesy Limo to and from the airport. IMO a great deal.

Inter-Continental is good. Their seafood buffett is great. Four Points Sheraton, just like Sheraton on the Park are good along with their restaurants but NOTHING beats Hyatt at the Rocks which is probably the most expensive hotel in Sydney with the best views and service. Just keep in mind that for Americans it is pretty cheap at the moment due to the exchange rate.

the Sheraton website has the four points inc breakfast for $165 australian. that is really cheap as it is in a great place even if the rooms are a little small.the Grace hotel is doing 2 nights at $A123 per night and third night free inc full breakky for 2 if you are a qantas ff member. that is REALLY cheap!

I'm in complete agreement with Spider. I've stayed at The Regent and found the rooms a bit small, the Shearton on the Park is handy if you want the shopping district - - but IMHO, nothing beats the Hyatt. Great service, nice rooms, beautiful views and great pool on the roof. Mind you, I have been hearing raves about The Westin which has taken over the old GPO. Very Zen.

The new Avillion a couple of blocks off Hyde Park is, IMHO, the best value in the CBD. I stayed there during the Olympics.

If you are looking for comfort, space and convenience, I can recommend the Saville at 2 Bond St. I stayed there with my family (wife and three kids) in a two bedroom suite and found it great.

Our company has currently has 10 overseas (non Australian) people staying there for three months, and having the space of a full suite (kitchenette, laundry etc) is fantastic for them. It is a short walk from Circular Quay, The Rocks (great restaurants) and the train.'
