Just booked family for week (5day/4night) vacation in San Juan in March. Staying at Hilton Caribe. We will have a car, since hotel is not in the center of things, but on beach which is #1 requirement. Heard nice things about hotel.

The group desires to have some fun, visit national park/rain forest, horseback riding, snorkeling, scuba diving(if time permits) have a few nice dinners, see some historic sites, etc.

Would like all information, past experiences shared, advice anyone can offer to make our vacation extra special.

Thanks,
US1@ORF

G2,

Looks like we will miss you by about a week. We are in San Juan now and depart on Friday, 3/12. Staying at the Hilton Caribe, excellent older property! Location is superb if you want to be near the condado, Old San Juan etc.

We arrived Monday afternoon to excellent weather. Yesterday we spent the entire day at the private beach and pool of the Hilton. Greate setup all around. Food has been nice. We left the property last night and went over to the Condado for a nice 'local' mexican meal. I found the place on the previous night while trekking for alocal market. Asked the Concierge to confirm and she actually said that is where we send our guests if they desire mexican cuisine. Name of place is Hacienda Don Jose. Located on left, just a block or so past from the Wyndham Beach Resort and Casino which is at the tip of the Condado across lagon from Hilton Caribe.

Today we did the all day snorkel trip on teh East Wind. $73 PP ($63 per child). Choose East Wind over the Spread Eagle II, also a catamaran snorkel/lunch cruise. You won't be disappointed. I will include more details in my trip report when I get home next week. This internet access is not cheap so limit my time to quick email access. I can't stay off FT for too long so had to take a peak.

Enjoy San Juan.

Thanks for the restaurant and other tips. We have been to San Juan before and have spent time downtown. We also went to Vieques for a few days. We're not snorkelers so I think we will go to El Yunque this time. We will be staying at the IC and we have rented a car so we can go wherever. I have a friend/colleague who lives there so I can count on her for a good restaurant recommendation when we go out with her. Glad to hear the weather is nice!

Hi US1@ORF, you mention that the Internet access is not cheap at the Caribe. We will be staying there in a few days and i was wondering about the wireless Intenet options at the property. Do they use T-Mobile or another provider (I have aT-Mobile account). Thanks.

It was last year when I was there and since at the time I did not have a laptop with me I was not looking for a hotspot. I'd suggest you email the hotel and ask.

The internet access is located in the Convenience Store directly across the lobby from the Front Desk. Good if you just want to check your messages for urgent items or a quick note back home but I'd never spend any time surfing or you'll spend a small fortune.

Enjoy your trip and time at the Caribe
