What special things can anyone tell me about Atlantis. We're planning a family vacation and are considering this resort.

Surprisingly I've found very little on Flyertalk about this destination.

Have been to Nassau a few times, but have never stayed at the Atlantis only visited.

I think the key would be if you are the type of family that makes the resort you are traveling to a destination resort? If so, the Atlantis would be a choice for you, our family runs from destination resorts.

What I do have experienced.

Expensive.
Kids love it.
Cruise ship passengers can use the resort, so it gets VERY busy.
Service is VERY slow.
Expensive (needs to be mentioned twice).
Food is ok, few good things, most mediocre, but it will cost you.

Stayed there a few years ago. They were still working on the Beach Tower, but the Coral Tower and Royal Tower were finished. The people in the Beach Tower were screaming about leaks and floods and the service was terrible. The water attractions are wonderful and the food was great. We took the Gourmet Food Plan, expensive but it's an experience. Frankly, it was interesting but I would never go back. If I spend good money to be at a resort I don't want hundreds of cruiseship guests all over the property and that is exactly what you get.

Went to Atlantis the last week of August, 2003, with my wife and 3 little ones, ages 4, 2, and 6 months.

Service was outstanding, something I was certianly not prepared for in the Bahamas. We checked into a dirty room at 11pm, and were promptly given an upgrade to a suite for the remaining 4 nights of our stay.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, was kind and smiled at us and our children. Take the meal plan, expensive, but worth it. Four year olds eat free on the meal plan, otherwise they pay. Most of the "cheap" meal plans are buffet resturants, but the buffets are high quality (in line with the Aladdin but not quite as good as Bellagio buffets in Las Vegas). Be forewarned, there is a 15% 'service charge' added to your actual consumption, on top of the meal plan costs.

Plenty of activities for children and adults of all ages. The Dig (aquariums) are open almost all hours, so even when it rains there is something to keep the little ones occupied. There is a "Discovery Channel Camp" on site for 4 year olds and over, but we never did it.

The casino vacuumed money out of my pocket, but hey, that's what they are for!

With the possible exception of Disney, this was the best vacation for the children we ever took.

I would go back again, even knowing how expensive it is.

It's a beautiful hotel. Great pools, magnificent lobbies, pretty beaches, plenty to do for the adults and kiddies alike. Stay next door at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island, it'll save you a bundle and they give you free day passes for the Atlantis property.
