Anyone from the boards stay for an adult weekend away from the kids on Orient Beach?
I have stayed in St. Maarten for business but on the Dutch side but just for one night. The island sounds like fun: beaches, bars, restaurants etc.
Thanks in advance for any details.

Too bad the shots of firm young people on the website http://www.orientbeach.com/ were not the people who were there when we went. Try only old and saggy people, not that there is anything wrong, but a mix of body types would be nice, there were none.
Generally most restaurants on the French side are better than the Dutch side.
We liked the cheap grilled food stands that you'll see along the roads.
Was on the island in '91 and again in 2000. We were amazed at the buildup and how traffic was a freakin' nighmare. In '91 is was a piece of cake to get from one end of the island to the other, but in 2000 pure hell.
Marigot has also become, IMO, quite seedy and run down. As a result, I don't recommend the island anymore.

SweetWillie,
What island would you recommend?
We have enjoyed getaways in:
Virgin Gorda
St. John
Great Guana Cay
We like to find out of the way places and enjoy all over sun.

What are you looking for in an island? What is your dream experience in an island?
The islands are so different from one another that each person will have their favorites.

If hard bodies are what you are looking for Cupecoy Beach is just as good if not a better place to see the sights and it is not nearly as commercial...
Oh if you decide to shop in philipsburg Stay away from "LUCKYTOO" near the courthouse. They will cheat you!!!!!!

Right next to Baie Lounge and the famous La Samana.
Also try Baie Rouge.
Forget Baie Orientale - nothing to look at.
