1. Has anyone gone to SXM? Any reasonable accomodations near the airport so I can get in some good approach photos?

2. Has anyone been to Atlantis (Paradise Island Bahamas) - if so, are they only bookable through Atlantis's website, or are there discounters and such who sell rooms at this resort? Any recommendations for where to look for discounted rates?

Thanks.

yes I have, a number of times. There are numerous hotels near the airport, but I could not name any in particular. What I can recommned is that at the end of the runway that faces the ocean, there is a public road with a small beach and a palm leaf roofed bar. I would think a perfect spot for approach shots while enjoying a cool drink.

your travel agent can book rooms there. I do not know of any discounters. Just curious, why do you wish to stay at this resort?

I was at the Atlantis about 18 months ago. You can book either through a travel agent, or through Paradise Island Vacations, I believe that have an 800 number and are located in Florida if I'm not mistaken. There are three sections: Beach Tower is the cheapest and was still under reconstruction when I was there and needed WORK! There is the Coral Tower, which I personally think is the most centrally located; and the Royal Tower, I think it's called. It's HUGE and beautiful, but not as elegant as I expected. We bought a meal plan at that time for $75. pp per day for 2 meals. It was worth it for most of the restaurants, but not all.

I am not sure of any hotels near the airport. Are you going just to take the photos or are you going for a vacation? I know my girlfriend and I greatly prefer staying on the French side of the island and you may want to look into this if you're going for a vacation. You can always go to the beach connected with the airport to take your photos.
