I've heard that Trinidad is less than ideal for your typical beach-going Caribbean vacation spot. Has anyone been there recently? Is it worth visiting for anything other than Carnival? Thanks for your comments.

I've been there on business. Wouldn't recommend Trinidad at all for a vacation. No really nice resorts, more industrial than resort-like.

I haven't been to Tobago but, have heard that would be much nicer for a vacation. Supposedly decent diving, nice beaches, rain forest, very laid back.

trinidad is not good for much except for carnival, but a short flight from trinidad to the sister island tobago will put you in one of the best vacation spots in the caribbean.

There may be some sketchy information in the Hilton forum (there's a Hilton property in Trinidad).

Hi ORFishHome, you're basically right. If you are looking for sun, sand, and pina coladas then Trinidad is not the place for you. Tobago may be what you want of you are looking for quiet unspoilt beaches. Try www.mytobago.info for details.

If you want the 'typical beach paradise' then you may be better off in Barbados, The Bahamas, Jamaica or Mexico
