Hi,
I'm going to be in Vancouver the weekend of the CART race (I can't really go to the race, since I've got to be back home for work early Monday).
What I'm wondering is how badly the traffic is going to be snarled over the three day weekend. Obviously, a lot of streets are going to be closed, but should I pretty much not plan on going downtown? I'm staying in a hotel really close to a SkyTrain stop in Burnaby, so I can use that to get around, right?
take care,
Scott

Where are you going to? Weekend traffic into Vancouver is busy at the best of times so having a bridge or two closed in the downtown area would not help. I'd imagine SkyTrain would be easiest/east hassle if you want to go there (no parking problems). Anywhere outside of downtown should be tolerable for driving.

Great-thanks! I'm going to be staying at the HI in Burnaby, so SkyTrain is certainly convenient (that's a good part of the reason that I booked it)
I don't really have any place in Vancouver that I have to go, but I'm going to be in Seattle the week before, and I thought it would make a nice three day weekend.
I may end up taking one day, and doing what I've done in London on the Underground--ride SkyTrain until I come to an interesting sounding stop, and get off and wander around.
take care,
Scott

If you're not so stuck on the HI in Metrotown, you might consider bidding at Priceline for a 4* in Burnaby. Chances are very high you'd get the Hilton (only 4* reported).
As for Skytrain, probably the best would be New West (not sure which stop for New West Quay), Broadway (walk north on Commercial Drive) and Waterfront (take ferry to north shore). I wouldn't say the other stops are particularly interesting.
