Hello there MarySunshine! Is this before or after or during your stay in SF?? Taking your granddaughter to Alaska??? Should we all be having a party in SF when you arrive? The crowd here will party with any excuse. Check out FlyerTalk Community.
At any rate, Celebrity has the BEST food afloat and the room sizes are as generous as you will find. We sailed on Horizon and loved the ship. You can find cruise reviews on www.cruisereviews.com (http://www.cruisereviews.com) Once upon a time www.getcruising.com (http://www.getcruising.com) was a good site but a bunch of loonies have taken it over. A few good people still come back once in a while, so you could try it.

Karen, you sound like fun. I am doing the cruise in October (I know, it's not the best time but all that circumstances allow) with my husband. I'm leaving my grandaughter home for that one. Her mother says no cruise cause I can't swim!!! My daughter's silly. Thanks for the help, it's great.

Hi Marysunshine:
I traveled on the Celebrity Galaxy on December 1999 and it was my second best cruise. It is an elegant big ship. I recommend it. I don't know if you have the same itinerary but mine included many Caribbean islands departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Yup! We go out of Puerto Rico to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Barbados and Aruba. We've been to these ports before and I would have preferred a more exotic itinerary, but my husband and I are both just recuperatin from illnesses and we're staying relatively close to home. But I'll go anywhere, just let me travel!!!! Especially if I don't have to cook, clean or answer the phone! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/biggrin.gif

An absolutely FABULOUS ship and cruise line Mary!!! I've been on 6 cruises with Celebrity. Their food and service is the best!!!
A helpful hint for you Mary... The dining room is 2 floors with HUGE windows. Everyone wants a table by the windows on the lower floor. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT sit on the lower floor or by the windows as there is a very loud vibrating noise from the ships engines.
Enjoy your cruise!

Here here on a big thumbs up to Celebrity. Just did the Celebrity Horizon the week before Christmas. Got it through On-Call Vacations at about $300 per person...Amazing deal for that caliber of a cruise.
Departed Aruba--->St Thomas, St Kitts, Barbados.
Food was supurb, as well as the service at the seatings...Good stuff, too...Some nights, couldn't get enough of the soups and had 3 bowls as my entree. Cold Melon soup over a filet and tail? Hey, I can get a piece of steak any time I want!
Entertainment was pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary though...Mainly Broadway-style revues, and the occasional game-show.
The cabin was spacious, despite the orange-based decor made it look like it hadn't been updated in 30 years, but the same schematics in other rooms in blue was much more appealing to the eyes.
The health club was a little small...Was a wait for certain machines in the afternoon.
Seemed to be a few too many little kids on the ship, but is to be expected the week before Christmas, I guess. Would hardly have noticed, except most were so ill-behaved, with parents that didn't seem to care.
All and all, I would chose Celebrity in a heartbeat again.

You are bringing me back with the talk of the cold soups on Horizon. They had one that I was crazy about. It tasted like Eagle Brand with lemon. Remember licking the lid as a kid? HO! And I do remember the melon soup. Terrific. One night my husband embarrassed me by ordering 3 entrees because he could not decide!

I just got back from my second Celebrity Cruise and absolutly loved it. I think you will have a great trip. However, I also suggest getting a table on the second floor of the dinning room. And if you want any spa treatments, make sure you go straight to the spa, otherwise they will be booked.
