I may go to Tokyo next week, thanks to fellow FTer IMKEWW and his buddy pass. Anyway I was wondering any suggestions you would have for Tokyo hotels? I would like to stay in downtown Tokyo in a location central to the nightlife Tokyo has to offer. I am a member of Starwoods, Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriot reward programs, but I am willing to stay at another Hotel Chain such as Inter-Continental, Mandarian or Pan-Pacific. I prefer modern hotels as I hate boutique hotels. Like I said I would like a location downtown (maybe by the water?) with easy access to the train to Narita, a good location, and easy access to local restaurants and attractions. I will only be there a day so a location central is essential. Thanks for the help.

There are scores of answers to your question, but I suggest:

a cheap Holiday Inn that is about 4 blocks from Tokyo Main station,

or the Keio Plaza Inter-Continental in Shinjuku.

I prefer the latter. Shinjuku is a terrific area. Take the train from NRT and walk 2 blocks to the hotel. When you leave, unless it is rush hour, take the bus. Tickets at the hotel desk for about $26. The Keio Plaza is a bit plain but quite affordable using UA Hotel coupons.
