I am on the Côte d'Azur for the week-end and booked a car with Thrifty via Internet. On arrival the agent told us no car had been booked. So I showed him the e-mail confirmation they had sent and after a call with Thrifty's main reservation office I got the car. However he said that I should not book them via Internet in the future as they have much trouble with this service.

Six months later and still the same problems. Booked via the internet (to be fair for the same day). Arrived 14 hours later in SJC to find a sign saying "no cars". No problem, I have a reservation. Problem: they never heard of me.

This time as well, they had to call the reservations agent and check my res number. After determining that I had, in fact, reserved a vehicle, they "found" one for me.

Make sure you've got your res number it will save your butt.

I am a Thrifty frequent renter and same
day rentals via the internet or 800 cust.
service result in a "no res" status as
the rule rather than the exception in
almost every case. The 800 res must be
called to verify your res.

But, if you sign up for Blue Chip (a
program that will never come close to
Hertz Gold in service), you have a better
chance that after verifying your res
that the agent will at least treat
you a little better as you wait for your
contract. But, again, I stress, you
won't get the efficiency of Hertz Gold,
so don't expect it.

Hmm -- in dozens of Thrifty bookings via internet (their site and Travelocity), I have never had a problem. I am a blue chip. Now if they would just post my airline points . . .
