I have been a member of Thrifty's "Silver Bullet" in Australia, which was only usable here, for some years. It was nice to see, a month or so ago, they mailed me a Blue Chip card. They have finally joined into the international scheme.

When I've wanted to rent, I've usually found Thrifty to be the cheapest of the ones available worldwide. ... and getting 700 (used to be 1000) Qantas points per rental has been quite nice too, despite the fact that most US Thrifty locations are too ****ed stupid to be able to put the credit through and I always have to send the paperwork in to Qantas to get the points.

I've rented from Thrifty in Australia and was very pleased with the service. Much, much better than in the States (I'm a Blue Chip member too).

Despite this seemingly good change a few years ago, it doesn't mean much. When I tried booking a Thrifty car online, I found that the Australian Blue Chip numbers aren't understood by Thrifty web sites in any other part of the world anyhow!

I'm glad Blue Chip is working in Au.: it's a joke in the US. I rent about 2 times a month using Blue Chip and in last 3 years I've seen Blue Chip work 3 or 4 times total (preferred treatment) over a walk up customer. Most of the time the paperwork hasn't even been printed out. Twice, non Blue Chip customers were ahead of me (in only line) and they got cars and drove off and when I got there they said that I would have to wait for a car to be returned. If they weren't so much cheaper I would just rent from Hertz or Avis all the time.
