Can anyone give advice as to the most enjoyable hotels in Capri? I will be there for three days in September. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
If you have a choice, I advise avoiding Capri altogether. Capri = world's biggest tourist trap. Find one of the smaller islands near Naples or Rome, or go to Sicily!

September is(contrary to what some believe) is one of the most wonderful months for a visit to Capri. Hotel Quisisana is one of the great hotels of the world--expensive(although you may find that a bit of "dickering" at the time of check-in may get you a better rate. True, many day trippers come to Capri--but by 5 pm they have left and the Island is yours--nothing like sitting in the main piazza sipping a cool drink and feeling like this is what life should always be like. Go!
Gisela is co-organizing a convention (FCSI = Food Consultants Federation International) at the Quisisana this coming automne http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, September is not as bad. Most of the "kids" are back in school and the schools aren't out in force on field trips yet.

What day of week is the most queit in end September (we have some flexibility within w/c 18/9)?
Would Sunday be really crowded compare to other days??
Can it be seen (not "done"!) in 1 day or we would need to stay overnight?
Is 2** hotel (or hostel) reservation really necessary or we can just turn up and find a room easily?
Thanks for your local knowledge! :)

I am considering staying at the new Marriott opening next year in Capri. How hard is it to get to Capri. Does your car (if you are driving) need to go on a ferry from the mainland? Is there any sort of train service to Capri? I looked on trenitalia.it and there did not appear to be any sort of public transportation to Capri
The 'Isle of Capri'...does not have any bridges, thus no train service. Not sure about the situation with bringing a car to the island, although there is lots of ferry/hydrafoil service from Naples, Sorrento etc. Taxi's (the open air/convertible variety) seem in abundant supply by the harbor so not sure why you'd want to bring a car to the island. Public transport seemed very do-able as well (buses, fununicular etc). It is not a large island and while I would agree you'd want to see it when all the tourists leave at the end of the day, I don't know if 3 or 4 days on Capri along is worth it. Although sitting by the harbor, sipping an icy cold Lemoncello di Capri in one of those small glasses is the way to live life (at least for awhile). I would agree that you should visit Capri, but also some of the other spots along the coast-- Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, etc etc.....
