I saw that *W had announced plans to open a property here according to the 2002 directory it prints and puts in rooms. Look under Future Openings. However, a search shows nothing to date. Any one know what happened? It is a pretty but sleepy town which would make a great vacation destination and easilly reached from BA by ferry service! I have gone there just to walk around and would book in a flash if there was a *W property there, esp on the beach!

We stayed at the Montevideo Sheraton last year - great spot, and pretty cheap too.

We spent a day in Colonia and yes it really is an historic sleepy place. I'd be surprised if there is enough toursit overnight traffic to justify the 4 or 5 star hotel?

The ferry that takes you across to the centre of Buenos Aires has THEEEEEE cheapest booze I have ever seen. It runs EZE-MVD AFAIK so Colonia is just a pick up spot.

IIRC 2 litres of Scotch ran about $US10 total. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

We are back in EZE in a couple months and were tempeted to make the trip again.

As a trivia point the United EZE-MVD flight is THE shortest "It'l" flight they make worldwide. A 777 with 10 or whatever pax was pretty weird! Even in C there was not time for even one drink.

Haven't been to MVD, but I know the UA flight to BA well. Argentina is second only to Thailand as one of the great inexpensive travel destinations in the "known" world!

I am still curious what happened to the hotel opening in Colonia. I too agree it is probably too small to justify a good hotel but still what a perfect destination would be after a few days in fast lanes of BA.

I am hoping to go again soon.
