Considering a Kaanapali Maui Marriott Ocean Club Time Share stay and wanted some insight from people who had stays there.
How are the time share rooms?
What was the rate cost or promo details?
Was availability an issue?
Whats your opinion of it?
I have been to Kaanapali beach, so I know it is beautiful and am aware that the property is shared with the hotel/resort and has recently been renovated into time share units.
Thanks

My husband and I stayed at the Maui Marriott in February. We had a special $699 promotion for 5 nights/6 days including a Mustang convertible rental car. We had no problems getting the dates we wanted but then we had done it about 4 months in advance.
We had no intention of ever buying a timeshare and were not required to attend any presentations. We decided to do so as they were giving a $100 gift cert for attending. We got to see the time-share rooms and ended up buying a 1 bedroom/ocean view timeshare. Needless to say we were impressed with the rooms and the property. We also appreciated the fact that there was no sales pressure at all.

Check out this site for pictures. I purchased last March. It's absolutely beautiful. You will love it.

Thanks for the link with the photos.
Do you guys mind my asking what sort of price we are talking about? I assume the yearly maintainance is upwards from $800?

I own 2 weeks of a 2 bedroom ocean front unit and one week of a one bedroom unit.
I am very happy with the units and as the price keeps going up since my purchase 2 years ago I feel it was a good choice.
Yes the yearly fee is 846.00 for the one bedroom units.
I would be happy to answer any other questions if you would like to e-mail me

Out of Curiosity, Did Marriot give you Lifetime VIP status in the Rewards program with your purchase?

If only! While I did earn 100,000 points, my Rewards membership level doesn't change. I wish Marriott would let one earn elite levels based on points as well as stays.

If you don't mind some nosey questions - what type of room did you get and for how many weeks? I bought just last month and received 110,000 miles for one week for a 1BR ocean view.
My vote would be for points to equate to elite status as well as stays or any vacation club purchase at x dollars or higher would come with an automatic status upgrade. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

I believe he stated in an earlier post that he bought two weeks of a 2BR. So, I'd say the points you receieved were comparable. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I purchased 2 weeks of a 2 bedroom OF,and 1week of a 1 bedroom OF.
I'm not certain of the miles recieved as they gave me the 713 award and a 709 award, the 713 is the old airline tickets and hotel stay award.Iturned the air portion into 120,000 AA miles for a trip to europe and I still have the 7 night stay at any Marriott to use. The other award was for 5 nights anywhere.

Could anyone please provide me with the offer/invitation number for the Maui Marriott or give me a referral for this offer? We got one in the mail for Kauai, but not for Maui and we are most interested in Maui. Thank You!

travelovingnurse,
I know this property well. We've stayed there every year since it opened! The entire hotel will be timeshare by 2004. It's a real shame. The renovations are really nice.
One option is to call the hotel directly and ask for the 5 night w/car promo. They'll sell it to you over the phone.

Thank you for your help. I will call the hotel directly and see if I can get it that way. I thought you had to have a special "invitation" number to get it. Thank you!

Remember those SAT analogies?
Miles are to Flyertalk as
Timeshares are to TUG (http://www.tug2.net/)

FYI Detailed info on Marriott timeshares from a buyer/user perspective can be obtained from logging into www.tug2.net (http://www.tug2.net) (timeshares users group). You can then register in the BBS register area and the page down into the Bulletin board area and then scroll down to the Marriott Board. If has a search function so if you put in the name of the resort you are interested in all posting for that resort will display. I highly recommend this site.

Slight enhancement to your post, Kathy. Although registration to use the TUG boards is free, the search feature is available only to TUG members. Not a big deal; it costs just 15 bucks!

Davie, I am referring to the ability to search within the Marriott Bulletin Board postings by subject. I am not a Tug member but I have never paid anything to search within a bulletin board

Something's amiss here, Kathy. The TUG software is configured so that only TUG members can use the search feature. No additional password is required. The feature just doesn’t work for non-members. The reason you can use the search feature is because you are a TUG member, as shown underneath your name (slightly different than your name here) adjacent to all of your posts (e.g., in five current threads on the TUG Marriott board). The only way you can be a member, as far as I know, is to pay $15 or, for renewing, pay $10 or refer others as new members.
From the second question of the TUG BBS FAQs (http://www.tug1.net/tugbbs1/faq.html) (bold emphasis added): "The TUG BBS is open and free to TUG Members as well as Non-members. Some features of the bbs are reserved for TUG members, however. For example, specific bbs conferences/forums may be reserved for Members only, and only TUG Members may use the Search feature. Outside the bbs, there are other sections of the TUG website which are reserved for TUG Members only, such as our written reviews of thousands of timeshare resorts around the world."
Still, your (and LIH Prem's) references to TUG are well worthwhile. A new registrant can get all kinds of Marriott timeshare info there without paying a dime.
