I stayed at the Embassy Suites on Shady Grove and it was awesome! They have the best Italian Restaurant in town!

Also, they can help you with some places in the local area. They have a HUGE restaurant guide at the front desk.

Whatever you do though, DO NOT eat at Applebees!

Where is Shady Grove please? We want to be downtown and have booked the Hampton Suites/Peabody location. We booked it for nights #1 and #3. We booked the Marriott downtown for night #2 (with a free weekend stay). Depending on where Shady Grove is we could book night #2 there for the 50K point bonus. Thanks for any comments.

The Hampton Inn(Peabody)Downtown is very nice, I have stayed there a number of times, it is much nicer than the standard HI.

If you like ribs (Memphis is famous for them), try the Rendezvous Room in DT area. Just ask for directions at the hotel.

The Hampton Suites/Peabody Place is very handy to Beale Street(very loud at night on weekends),the trolley(all day pass from conductor-$2.50 exact change;also stops right in front of the Marriott.) as far as restaurants are concerned, the Rendezvous for ribs, The Pier for steak and seafood, and if you get bored with these choices there are many different types of restaurants to experiment with. Don't forget AutoZone Park for minor league baseball(Cardinals Triple AAA)if you like ballpark food. If you want to know what others have to say or need additional information about Memphis area restaurants, try http://www.memphisdining.com
Other items of interest are the Pyramid Arena, currently hosting the Russian Czar exhibit, the National Civil Rights Museum, housed in the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated, Mississippi Riverboat cruises, and Vegas Style Gambling Halls in nearby Tunica Mississippi.

If you're downtown, ypur only option is the HI. There is an ES and a Hilton in East Memphis, but it is a hike from where you want to be.

Memphis...the only city I've ever seen where the EAST part is the NICE side of town.

I would to have to agree that the Hampton Inn (Peabody) is an above average for HI and a great location. Stumbling distance home from Beale street and a short walk to everything else (Peabody Place Mall, AutoZone Park etc.)

Corky's BBQ is awesome! I have never eaten there, but have had plenty bought back to the UK, and believe me, it is incredible!! Assuming you eat meat that is, if not ignore above!

You can get Corky's at the Memphis Airport. Was a line there, including many flight crew personnel last time I was there.

The pulled pork nachos at both Corky's and Rendezvous are both very good (if you're into cheese with sweet sauce).

If you would like, email me and I will be happy to help in any way I can. I live in Memphis and there are a lot of places that are a must see/must do!

Among those mentioned, the Rendevous AND Corky's are both good in their own way. The Rendevous are dry ribs only, and Corky offers both kinds. Do try Both!

Autozone Park is awsome, and a true treat, that is a must do! There is a very good Japanese restaurant named Sekisui. There are several locations (4 I believe.) They fly (via Fed-ex) from Japan the fresh fish. The sushi is great! Great Nigiri!

Gransanti's Italian Restaurant is wonderful (the one in the Embassy Suites Hotel near the corner of Poplar and Shady Grove(ridgeway.) It is the son of John Gransanti's restaurant. Big John as he was known, was a world famous restauranteur and Philanthropist.

The Corky's in the airport has only a limited selection, so go to the original location on Poplar Avenue and GET THE ONION LOAF! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I hope this helps! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm not one, but some Seattle folks may disagree with you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
